Kačamak
A traditional dish of cornmeal and potato, stirred for a long time and served with kajmak or sour milk.
Destination
A town on a high plateau, surrounded by lakes, forests and peaks — and a canyon that takes your breath away.
Black Lake is the symbol of Durmitor: two connected lakes — Great and Small — surrounded by dense black pine forest, with Međed peak rising above the water.
The path around the lake is an easy walk whose colours change through the year — from deep summer green to golden autumn and the frozen silence of winter.
Durmitor National Park, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980, covers a mountain massif with dozens of peaks above 2,000 metres, glacial lakes and deep canyons.
The highest peak is Bobotov Kuk (2,523 m). Trails range from gentle walks to demanding climbs — for serious routes we recommend a local guide and checking the weather.
A panoramic loop road linking Žabljak with Sedlo Pass and the plateaus beneath Durmitor’s peaks — switchbacks, limestone walls and a viewpoint at every bend.
It is at its best from late spring to early autumn; in winter parts of the road may be closed.
The Tara River Canyon reaches a depth of about 1,300 metres — the deepest in Europe. The Đurđevića Tara bridge offers one of the country’s most famous views.
The Tara is also the region’s rafting centre — the season and conditions depend on water levels, so it is best to check dates in advance.

Vražje Lake lies on the Jezera plateau, not far from Žabljak, surrounded by gentle pastures — its turquoise water changes shade with every passing cloud.
Open space and silence make it a favourite spot for a break, a picnic and photographs, especially in summer.
Žabljak through the seasons
Hikes to panoramic viewpoints, swims in cold glacial lakes, forests that always stay fresh, and bike rides across the high plateau.
Beech and pine forests in gold and red, quiet trails, woodsmoke in the air and the hearty cooking of the north.
Snow turns the town into a storybook mountain village — skiing on Savin Kuk, snowshoeing and warm evenings indoors.
Nature wakes up: streams fill, meadows turn green and Durmitor is quiet and all yours.
